Meet the Decoys!

Roy Manders:
Roy Manders, 24 years old and living in the Netherlands, started working with protection dogs about 6 or 7 years ago. Initially, he was a decoy for Dutch Police Dogs, and after two years, he transitioned to the exciting sport of Mondioring! Roy became an internationally recognized decoy in 2021 and has already participated in several prestigious competitions, such as the World Championship for Dutch Shepherds 2022, the Belgian Championship 2022, and the Swedish Championship 2023. He can’t wait to add more events to his list. Roy wishes all participants the best of luck in their preparations for this World Championship and looks forward to seeing everyone there.

Kevin Faes:
Decoy Kevin Faes is from Belgium. Kevin has been practicing the Mondioring dog sport for about 9 years and has been an officially recognized decoy for 8 years. As a decoy, he has participated in the Belgian Championship and various international competitions, including the World Championship for Dutch Shepherds in 2020 and 2021. Kevin hopes that many spectators will come to watch this versatile dog sport, helping it gain more recognition in the Netherlands as well.

Meet the Judge!
Jos Helsen:
Judge Jos Helsen is from Belgium. He has been training in the Mondioring program since its inception in 1985 and participated in the first Mondioring World Championship held in Belgium in 1987. Since then, Jos has competed in 19 World Championships with 6 different dogs, standing on the podium with 3 different dogs, achieving 4 first places, 3 second places, and 1 third place. This year, Jos has been selected to participate in Italy in the highest category with his dog.

At the Belgian Championships, Jos has secured 10 first-place finishes with 5 different dogs. He became a Mondioring judge in 1990 and has judged the FCI World Championship 7 times, the Belgian Shepherd World Championship once, and the Dutch Shepherd World Championship 3 times.

Jos appreciates the Mondioring program for its ever-changing nature, where every competition is different, and the exercises are never the same. Additionally, dogs are required to perform certain tasks on their own initiative, without commands from their handler, such as guarding, defending the handler, and preventing the decoy from escaping during the transport exercise. For this reason, Jos believes it is impossible to say “my dog knows everything.” Handler and dog will always face surprises during competitions.

Jos wishes all participants the best of luck in their preparations for the World Championship and hopes to meet everyone here in May.
